Westbury 1st eleven started the season with a convincing away win at newly promoted Chadlington winning by 8 wickets with more than 12overs to spare. On winning the toss on a day that was likely to be interrupted by showers skipper Richard Tredwell invited the home side to bat and after a slightly loose start Charlie Harper and Andy Clark found their rhythm and it was Harper who struck in the 7th over clean bowling one of the Chad openers. The prolific Danny Harding looked dangerous but with Clark keeping it tight one end Harper struck at regular intervals between the showers taking the first 4 wickets including Harding well caught by debutant wicket keeper Sam Willett. Harper finishing with 4 for 31 off his 9overs in what had now become a 35 over game due to the various stoppages. Harper was replaced  by Ben Cole and Clark by another new boy Graham Judd and Chadlington found themselves running out of both wickets and overs as the runs dried up. Cole struck next aided by a fine catch at mid off by Charlie Harper who was having a fine day! A sharp chance to slip saw Mike Loggin dive but not quite hold onto the ball but it was not too costly as Cole bowled the same batsman later that over. A few lusty blows in the final 5 overs saw Chadlington squabble past the hundred mark but their innings ended with a good catch by Tredwell at mid wicket leaving the innings on 109 for 8 at the close. This never really looked like being enough to really test Westbury`s batting lineup

Sam Willett and Tom Gurney got off to a great start with Gurney playing some glorious offside shots and Westbury raced along at about 6 an over with one eye on the weather. Gurney was first to go for 24 bowled by a Yorker but Willett was by now finding the gaps and a very breezy 8 from tom Wilson kept the runs coming. Wilson skied one to mid off where he was caught by Maccullum and Tom Boardman came to the crease. With a storm fast approaching Westbury pushed even harder but were left needing just 18 more runs when the rains came and it looked like the game might not finish. Fortunately the clouds cleared and it didn`t take Boardman(24*) and Willett(47*) very long to round off a more than satisfactory win.

We welcome Minster Lovell next Saturday as Westbury look to build on this first success.
